NEW SONGS AND A NEW CD

After a gap of seven years, David launched a new album, "Songs Of Integrity (and other compositions)", at the Blue Boar in Maldon on Friday, 15th July. For David, this is his first collection of new songs since "I Can Explain", released in 2004.

"The album is much simpler than most of the recordings I have released. I was touring the UK recently and people were asking if the CDs I had available were like the performance they had just heard. Well, on studio albums you tend to invite other musicians to colour the production whereas what people hear live is often just me. This new album is basically just my guitar and voice so what you hear is what you get."

You can order this album for £8.00 inc p+p in UKdirect through PayPal here:

SONGS OF INTEGRITY LYRICS....

I WILL SING ACROSS THIS NATION

Wherever there's wars, wherever there's pain
Wherever there's sunshine, wherever there's rain
Wherever there's conflict, wherever there's wrong
Wherever there's someone in need of my song
I will sing across this nation and my message will be clear
It's wrong they shouldn't do it, not round here

Wherever injustice, wherever there's fate
Wherever there's love, wherever there's hate
Wherever there's tales that have to be told
Wherever there's trails I will be bold
I will stand up to injustice, and yes, we will stand as one
Altogether now: what have they done

It's brilliant! You say what you like.
And nobody listens. A song on the spike.
It's taken me years to think it all through
And now I'm too old, I know what to do
I will sing across this nation to show just how I feel
And it may not be that brilliant but it's real

I have been to lots of places where the faces wore a frown
And after they heard my songs they said you must write this stuff down

Wherever there's heartache, wherever it's tough
Wherever there's feelings, wherever there's stuff
Wherever there's hope, wherever despair
Wherever there's d-soap I will be there
I will sing across the nation and my message will be spare
My web site information's over there

THE BALLAD OF JAZZY B

There's a moon in the heaven there's a moon in the sea
Both of them shining their light on me
Bartholomew Freeman was the name they gave to me
But everybody here they just call me Jazzy B
A man of mystery a man of many parts, a man of..
History, of broken hearts
Maybe just one, maybe just two
A third one depending on your point of view
Some say sinful, some say hot
Some say simple some do not
Was a gentleman once although you won't have heard, won
The girl of my dreams and I never said a word

There's a moon in the heaven there's a moon in the sea
Both of them shining their light on me
What did I do? What did I see?
The only one who'll ever know is me, Jazzy B

It was quite a while ago, what happened after that
Well I wrote it all down kept it under my hat
Florrie B sang in the public hall
Sang with a passion, a siren call
Little did they know she was singing it to me
But I did, I did, definitely
Singing like an angel, singing like a bird
Singing like a diva and never said a word

There's a moon in the heaven there's a moon in the sea
Both of them shining their light on me
Bartholomew Freeman, a sailor on the sea
Little did they know it was me, Jazzy B

UNFORESEEN PREDICAMENTS

Everything is changed now there's a difference
All you ever saw before was unforeseen predicaments
It was never s'posed to be like this
You made your choice you sealed it with a kiss
But anything can happen you don't need to look around
Flying so high now you can't see the ground
How it all happened you doubt you'll never know
But now you're flying easyJet it just goes to show that

Anything can happen yu can never plan what happens
Something comes along you never thought would happen happens
Last thing you needed was unforeseen predicaments
But everything is changed now spot the difference

Keep it up, keep it up Keep it up, keep it up

Suddenly from nowhere she came into view
And she made you feel everything was brand new
You could talk again been a long time
You could walk with a step and a brilliant mind
You could love, you could sing, you could do any thing
You've a mind to, maybe not sing
When you think about the days that were there for you to seize
Did you grip them with your soul or did they float off in the breeze

Anything can happen you can never plan what happens
Something comes along you never thought would happen happens
Last thing you needed was unforeseen predicaments
But everything is changed now spot the difference

BOMB DIVE

We're going down the lake, we're going for a swim
Not the swimming pool, we're not going to the gym
We are leaving school at three forty five
Swimming to the rafts, doing bomb dives
Bit of salt water, it was so full of stuff
Innoculated everyone you couldn't get enough
Come on in, leave your towel in the trees
The water is brown and seventy degrees

Ooooh, let's all go down to the prom
Make you feel good let's go down to the prom

Summers I remember, summers I recall
Some were very hot, some were not at all
One thing I remember, a girl I never knew, she was
Swimming through the water like dolphin would do
She was oh so good, American crawl
I stood there with my towel on, I was enthralled
The motion was emotional, to move with such grace, she was
Such a good swimmer you never saw her face

Ooooh, let's all go down to the prom
Make you feel good let's go down to the prom

Whatever was the weather where I came from
You walked down the road and you went to the Prom
You went down the Valley, chucked a stone in the mud
Isn't very long before the Prom is in your blood
I first heard the Doors when I was walking down there
Penny Lane, Reach Out I'll Be There
They were selling candy-floss big as they could make
Don't eat before you swim go straight down the lake
There were pretty cool kids with black rubber rings
Remember all the jelly-fish, bastards could sting
Towel full of sand scratching at your tum
Wind in your face breeze round your bum
The mud on the bottom went straight through your toes, what
Was all that about well that's the way that mud goes
Old blokes smoking, sitting on their smack
Another kind of world never coming back

Ooooh, let's all go down to the prom
Make you feel good let's go down to the prom

THOUGHTS & PRAYERS

Thoughts and prayers, thoughts and prayers
I send my online thoughts and prayers
Starving children they're for you
And they're for down-pressed people too
For all of us who think and pray
There's got to be a better way
Between my games of Solitaire
I send you all my thoughts and prayers

Famous people who live on
Through their music every one
For heroes fallen by the way
My thoughts are with you every day
If you're feeling sad and your mind's not well
Don't hide inside your inner shell
For all my friends who once took drugs
I send my thoughts and prayers and hugs

Colon and parenthesis
Laugh out loud and kiss kiss kiss
These are thoughts that I can send
To my two thousand online friends

Thoughts and prayers, thoughts and prayers
I send my online thoughts and prayers
For those of us who have to cower
From all those crooked men in power
I hate those crooked men don't you
The things they say, the things they do
Between my games of Solitaire
I send you all my thoughts and prayers

YOU AND I BOTH KNOW IT HAD TO END

Well I met you at the station, you asked me what was wrong
I said I had no inspiration to write another song
You asked was I a writer, I said sometimes I can be
But I only write my songs if they have integrity

We made love in the afternoon your dress upon the chair
I keep my underpants on in case a song occurs
As it happens I was not inspired to leave your satin bed
We just lay and talked about me and my songs instead

But you and I both know it had to end
You said I'll get something for supper
You said, I'm glad to be your friend
Well I'll miss you and respect you but I must travel on
By the time you get to Tescos I'll be gone

You went to work and left me with your laptop and your phone
I'm not One to take advantage unless I am left alone
I needed someone near me and you were far away
When I'm on the road it's the price you have to pay

But you and I both know it had to end
You said I'll get something for supper
You said, I'm glad to be your friend
Well I'll miss you and respect you but I must travel on
By the time you get to Tescos I'll be gone

THE ENGLISH CAPTAIN (A Shortened History Of Venice)

She was a Venetian rose From a prosperous merchant family
Her father was a member of the Council of Forty
Of whom the Doge thought most highly
Then one night at the Carnivale Sipping Galliano tea
She was introduced to an English Captain
A thumping crook naturally

His name was Cargill, he'd come for the season
An English rogue as some did tell
He fired his cannon-balls at the French for no reason
His career was going well
In matters of trade he could be relied on
To look as though he earned things honestly
Rose to the rank of an English Captain
Just the kind of chap the merchant navy liked to see

There was not a woman in Venice
Could resist his English charms
In candlelit canals, oh, He took her in his arms
This was love beyond compare
To any other love affair
In British naval history we're aware
So they say

Word got back to the Doge's people
That all was not well domestically
They got the man at Florian's to stitch up the Captain
It was called his Galliano fee
He accused Cargill, amongst other things, of
Treacherous behaviour on a massive scale
For he was the rival of the English Captain
Who'd taken the wind right out of his sails

It wasn't long before the court condemned him
To walk across the Bridge of Sighs, but
The Venetian rose she would still defend him
Paid the gaoler close his eyes
So they escaped into the Laguna
Sipping Galliano tea
She preferred the charms of an English Captain
To a gradually fading autocracy

There was not a man in Venice
Could resist Napoleon's dance
He stole their paintings off the wall
And took them back to France
One treasure he could not dispose
Was that sweet Venetian rose
Give an English Captain half a chance
You're history.

BETWEEN THE LINES

Well it's a sad fact, if you read between the lines
Something else is going on, you can't quite define
The more you think about it the more you seem to find
The things that people say is not what's on their mind

But there it is, it's a problem, what did they say
Did they tell you that they loved you only in their own way
Did they say you were adorable did they say they'd be right back
It's a wicked wicked world and that's a wicked fact

Just because you party it doesn't mean you swing
And just because you're Crosby that doesn't make you Bing
Just because you kiss and bells begin to ring
Read between the lines it doesn't mean a thing

I got myself a book and I read between the lines
Staring into spaces where the words are hard to find
Put two and two together I must've been blind
The way I read before I had to leave it all behind

People tell you one thing but that's not what they mean, no
What they mean is something somewhere sort of in between
You think you're reading everything it's there in black and white
Then someone says good morning in the middle of the night

Just because you party it doesn't mean you swing
And just because you're Crosby that doesn't make you Bing
Just because you kiss and bells begin to ring
Read between the lines it doesn't mean a thing

I was taught to read, yeah, Jack and Jill before my eyes
Then progressed to Noddy turned out to be a bunch of lies
When I got to Neville Shute I was at the root of everything
A Town Like Alice, the English i-ching
So my advice to you is read between the lines
To read the little spaces otherwise undefined
Anyone can learn, bankers do it all the time
In a social situation bear these facts in mind

Just because you party it doesn't mean you swing
And just because you're Crosby that doesn't make you Bing
Just because you kiss and bells begin to ring
Read between the lines it doesn't mean a thing

REQUIEM FOR A SHED

The fuckers knocked the shed down I cannot get my head round
The spiritual vandalism of a crime so profound
All over town they know the shed no longer stands
The shed that I built with my own hands
They bought the house and now they've knocked the shed down
Two and a quarter rough-sawn the frame was sound
Three quarter ship lap I did it on my own
Rock wool insulated power and phone

What a shed, the carpet was as deep
As the late autumn leaves after their last leap
Safe as a harbour in the centre of a storm
In summer it was cool in the winter it was warm
A place of work and a place of great light
Next to the house in the middle of the night
As garden sheds go no nothing could beat her, I mean
A cocktail bar, television and a heater

A place where you could think, it was a place where you could drink
A place beneath the stars a place upon the brink
It was everything a man or woman wanted it to be
It was a palace of varieties a palace of the free
All lit up on a Saturday night,
Watching match of the day and then the big fight
Stuart came round from the other side of town
I haven't told him yet that the fuckers knocked the shed down

(instrumental)

I built it in the August of two thousand and one
Took me three long months before the work was done
The roof felt nailed down, the window in the frame
In the last cement I carved my name
Heirlooms and photographs precious everyone
The leftover bits from every job I'd ever done
There were shelves full of boxes from times gone by
I thought that I would be there till the day I died

I built it for work I built it for fun
In the cool of the evening in the heat of the sun
And when it was over I sat inside in the shade
And I beheld the beauty of what I had made
This is where I sat when I heard that song
And this is where I was when a dream came along
A dream that I imparted to my good friends
This is where it started and this is where it ends

I was hoping one day when I'm gone and most revered
They'd put a plaque on that shed that said he may have been weird
But this is where he wrote his books and his truth will never wilt
In fact he wrote it in the house before the shed was built
But this is where it happened this is where he wrote
His desk was over there and that's where he hung his coat
And here's a little history to tell you what was found
There'd be a lot more but the fuckers knocked the shed down

400 MILES

Lavender white and a sawn-off coffee table
Dozens of boxes of labelled cassettes
Trim-phones and bank loans and all myths and fables
In place in the bedsit for music cadets
Revox looped up and set for the next take
Of songs of integrity written in ink
All we need now is a bloody big break
Question of months and we'll be on the brink

Rapidly rising and anything possible
Touring extensively moments away
It won't be long till the day job is tossable
And your girl believes the things that you say
For love is the answer that she wants to hear
And rare is the dancer who won't disappear
If it's pressure it's love if it's not then she's gone
Her dancing is over but you carry on

It seems four hundred miles away
From her wonder woman ways
There's bound to be some better day
To come our way

It's your secret world and it's not a delusion
But right now a secret you cannot betray
To a living soul just you wait in seclusion
Hatching the plots in your head till the day
When anything possible seems to be true
And all that you dreamed of is coming what may
Takes just a word, nothing they do to you
Nothing, not money can take that away

Thirty years later the walls are magnolia
Songs on a memory stick if you will
Smart phones and bank loans and all myth and fables
In place still beside the utility bills
Cubase is up and may not even fail
Songs of integrity print out in ink
All I need now is to stay out of jail
Question of months and we'll be on the brink

It seems four hundred miles away
From her wonder woman ways
There's bound to be some better day
To come our way

It's your secret world and it's not a delusion
But right now a secret you cannot betray
To a living soul just you wait in seclusion
Hatching the plots in your head till the day
When anything possible seems to be true
And all that you dreamed of is coming what may
Takes just a word, nothing they do to you
Nothing, not money can take that away

BLUE CAR

So long blue car
So long so far
Nothing wrong with your heart
Just this MOT tore us apart
So long and so far
So long blue car

Me and Bert we drove you half way to the sun
Then we hit the road which is where we came undone
Spivving for a living and living on the fear
That's how it's come to this, now you've got under-steer
Your rack and pinion's too worn for the test
Emission's a problem, you're in a mess
The total sum was a total charade
The upshot is, I haven't got a car

I live in the country, need a car for goodness sake
I should get a grant for all the sacrifices that I make
I live in isolation with just sixteen thousand others
You need a car in Essex to avoid one another
And what about all those people who live in Kent that can't be easy
They need a car to talk things through, Kent can be so breezy
And the people out in Suffolk well they're all as mad as hell
But unless they live in Ipswich they need cars as well

I blame myself no I do, I didn't treat you right
Left you standing outside all night
Tell you what I'll do, I'll make amends
Going to get you back out there on the bends
I'll get insurance I'll make a start
I'll be back with the spare parts
The policy will be all-risk
Yeah, I'm coming back with a tax disc

So long and so far, so long blue car
Oh, my blue car

HOLD YOUR HORSES WOMAN

Hold your horses woman
I am not like other men
I understand things like what you need and when
In the morning you need my attention at night you need it too
Strict and undivided attention nothing else will do
You ask me how I know what a tangled web you weave
Female intuition is not easy to achieve
But I really paid attention I was blind but now I see
Woman you have no secrets left but one just what you saw in me

I was not tall I was not dark
I was not handsome by the normal benchmark
I had a sense of humour I think that helped a bit
But then you said you thought you were the butt of it
But then you took me to your heart although I like to keep myself apart
You honoured me some girls won't
You said you loved me and now you say you don't

Hold your horses woman what are we coming to
You say that I'm obnoxious well OK but so are you
There's no difference the argument is over
Even though you say it's only half way through
You always want things twice as long when half as long will do
Oh ask me no more questions I swore not to kiss and tell
I live in a world of my own you live in one as well
We're as bad as one another there's no other undiscovered things that we could try to do
You see all men are bastards still and women you're all bastards too
